Manna Food Center

PEC volunteers had a deeply rewarding experience contributing to the mission of Manna Food Center. They dedicated half a day to assisting at the newly renovated Manna Food Center Warehouse in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The day began with folding boxes used to distribute food shares to the community.

Volunteers then filled each box with fresh produce, which typically included items like five sweet potatoes, nine apples, a head of lettuce or mixed greens, a package of grapes, sandwiches, mini cucumbers or grape tomatoes, and a quarter of a watermelon. In total, they packed 90 individual boxes, placed them on rolling shelves, and prepared them for delivery by wrapping and loading them onto distribution trucks.

As various local charities arrived to collect the food for their communities, PEC volunteers witnessed firsthand the gratitude expressed towards Manna Food Center. It was a meaningful reminder of the positive impact the organization has on the people it serves.

Since 1983, Manna Food Center has been on a mission to end hunger in Montgomery County, Maryland. Every year, this charity distributes food to over 32,000 individuals and supports nearly every social service organization in Montgomery County. Manna Food Center builds a robust social safety net by providing a sense of security during the times of uncertainty for those in need.
